We must grow in love, and to do this we must keep on loving, and giving and giving until it hurts. -- Mother Teresa

In January two SbSI volunteers, Koji Sasaki and Angela Jones, worked with 25 students of the American School in Japan and their two teachers to prepare lunch for 250 homeless people at Shinjuku Chuo park. The young people brought sandwiches and cookies they had made at the school, and we cooked together vegetable soup at the park and also served oranges. SbSI coordinated this event and supplied the cooking equipment, tables, cups and forks. Each homeless person was being personally attended to and given not only a pleasant meal but also words of encouragement. The students now have the vision to do more volunteer work in the future, locally, as well as abroad.

THAILAND - An ambulance and medical machines to equip an entire clinic, including CT scan, X-ray machine, operation room, blood check machine, etc., donated by Japan International Friendship and Welfare Foundation and Mrs. Akiko Iwai, were sent through SbSI to a hospital which is now being constructed, belonging to the Doi Tung Development Project which is near the Doi Tung Royal Villa in Thailand 500m from the northern border of Myanmar.
Doi Tung is the site of a major environmental and socio-economic development project initiated by Her Royal Highness Srinakarindra the Princess Mother, mother of His Majesty the King of Thailand, during the last years of her long and productive life. For years, Her Royal Highness traveled to remote villages throughout the country to provide medical care and support for education and economic development to the country's poorest citizens.

Appreciation letter for the Donation of Radiology Equipment - Excerpt of "Sihanouk Hospital Center of HOPE Newsletter #60 2004"

Cat scan equipment "We are extremely grateful to Mr. Rick Dyck for purchasing the much needed donations for a C-arm, mobile x-ray unit and an Ultrasound Machine with Colour Dopper. Also, we are very thankful to Mr. Koji Sasaki of Side By Side International, who facilitated this kind gift by locating the equipment, negotiating the cost of the purchases and arranging for them to be transported to Cambodia. All three devices are major necessities to the Radiology and Surgical Departments."
... But love found a way!
If you're too busy to heed the cry of those in need, you're busier than God Himself! -- You can't just pass by the poor man on the road to Jericho! You take action like the Samaritan did! That's the difference between pity and compassion: pity just feels sorry. Compassion does something about it! -- The compassionate ... put feet to their prayers and kind deeds to their words.
Remember, love never fails -- because God is Love and it is impossible for Him to fail! This is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith, but it is faith which works by love.
Love is not blind, it has an extra spiritual eye which sees the good and possibilities that others cannot see! -- Love has creative power, because God is Love and He is the creator! -- And with His help our faith can also create! Someone is passing under the window of your life right now! Has your love found a way to help them? Has His Love showed you how you can help them? He will if you want Him to, no matter what the conditions or your limitations! (Daily Might 1:3)
