Dr. Haraguchi’s visit to Cambodia

Dr. Yoshikura Haraguchi, formerly of the Division of Pathophysiology at National Hospital, Tokyo Disaster Medical Center visited Cambodia. During his stay, he visited 3 national hospitals and Embassy of Japan. There were some good discussions on disaster and emergency medical situations. He also helped health check of SBSC School on Rumdual island.

Disease prevention/Health Care Program by SBSI&GRAPHIS

On June 13, SBSI staff (including a pediatric and medical students) visited Koh Rumdual for its Disease Prevention & Health Care program, supported by GRAPHIS (Japanese students NGO.). First, they awarded students who did well on hygiene program at SBSC School this month. Later they gave treatment to the children and babies who were sick.

2013-11.28 Handover ceremony for Chest X-Ray Bus

On November 28th, the handover ceremony of chest X-ray Bus was held at National Center for Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control(CENAT) in Phnom Penh in the presence of H.E. Dr. Mam Bun Heng (Minister of Health of Cambodia), Mr. Hiroshi Izaki(Chief representative of JICA Cambodia Office), Mr. Hidehiko Kondo(President of Japanese Business association of Cambodia) and representatives of Japan Anti-tuberculosis Association(JATA), Cambodia Anti-tuberculosis Association(CATA) and CENAT. Akiko Sasaki from SBSI was also invited to the ceremony. At the request from JATA. SBSI shipped the bus to Cambodia from Japan With support from Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ltd.,T, and remodeled it in Cambodia
The bus has already been used in some provinces. It has made it possible for many TB patients to be diagnosed at early stage.

In Cambodia, though the incidence of tuberculosis (TB) has been declining due to the great effort made by Cambodia, Japan and other foreign governments and NGOs, it was last reported at 437.00 (per 100,000 people) in 2010, according to a World Bank report released in 2011. (In Japan, it is 18.3.)
